TYPES OF BINDINGS

PERFECT BOUND

All softcover books use perfect bound binding. In the perfect binding process, the cover and pages of the book are glued together at the spine and then the edges are trimmed to give your book its sharp, even edges. Perfect bound books are lightweight, flexible, and sleek. Often referred to as paperback books, they are usually very durable and a great choice for a more professional looking sketchbook. Perfect bound books can be made as small as 5x5, or as large as 9x12.

SPIRAL BOUND

Spiral binding is a popular method for binding tattoo sketchbooks. Spiral binding uses a coil that is inserted into holes punched through the book pages. A great benefit of coil binding is that it’s a lay-flat design, this makes it a great choice for reference books or any book that you’d like to photocopy, such as stencil/line drawing books. Spiral bound books can be customized with different cover options and color coils.

SADDLE STITCH

Saddle stitch is one of the most popular book binding methods available today. In saddle stitching, folded sheets of paper are nested one within another and attached by staples through the fold. These stacks are placed over a holding apparatus, with each side hanging over like legs on a saddle. Then, long wire staples are threaded, or “stitched” through the paper, giving the method its name. After stapling, the top, bottom, and face side is trimmed to make a clean sharp book. This binding is a great choice for books with lower page counts.
